Out and About
The area in and around Carlisle is extremely beautiful and has a wide range of activities and sights to interest everyone who visits the area.
Carlisle itself is a very beautiful and historic city which offers a large pedestrianised city centre which has many shops, cafes, pubs, bars and clubs. There are bus and train stations near by which can be used to easily access the surrounding area.
The city has a vast amount of history hosting a medieval castle, cathedral, citadel and many other buildings that have been standing for centuries. There are museums and tours which can be found in the city centre providing you with all the information you need.
To the north lies Scotland and the Borders. Here you will find countryside used to provide a range of outdoor activities from walking to fishing, kayaking to mountain biking. The area has a lot to offer and can easily be accessed by a short drive north on the M6 motorway. Edinburgh and Glasgow are around 100 miles to the north and both are worth a visit for people visiting the area, again accessed using the M6.
To the south lies the world renowned Lake District National Park. Here you will find many towns and villages tucked away in the beautiful valleys and mountains of the national park. Be sure to check out the stunning lakes, views and hundreds of different walks which will leave you amazed at the beauty of this very special area of northern England.
To the East lies the original path used by the Romans to construct the Roman Wall which has now become a famous World Heritage site. Originally built to keep out the invading Scots, the wall now provides a path thousands of people follow each year from coast to coast. Even if you aren’t interested doing the full walk, many sections of the wall still exist along with visitor centres, museums and sight seeing tours which will give you and insight into the history and background of this area in the very north of England.
